Benefit Calculator Instructions

There are six tabs on the left hand portion of the Benefit Calculator. The six tabs are:
Instructions
Employee Information
Beneficiary Information
Final Average Salary (FAS) and Service Information
Retirement Information
Results

The Instructions tab returns you to this page if you need assistance while performing an online benefit calculation.

The next four tabs - Employee Information, Beneficiary Information, FAS and Service Information, and Retirement Information allow you to enter the information required to perform a benefit calculation.

The sixth tab - Results allows you to view the results of the calculation after the information has been entered on the preceding tabs.

To move though the input fields, use your mouse or the TAB key to move forward and SHIFT-TAB to move backwards.

A brief description of the data that needs to be entered follows:
Employee Information
(i) Birth Date This is your date of birth. This is needed to calculate your age on your retirement date.
(ii) Department Type This is your classification of employment for LAGERS purposes.
Beneficiary Information (Optional)
(i) Beneficiary Exists Select Yes if you have a beneficiary. The Benefit Calculator will perform Option A and Option B benefit calculations.
(ii) Birth Date This is your beneficiary's date of birth if you decide to elect an optional form of benefit. This is needed to calculate your beneficiary's age on your retirement date.
FAS And Service Information
(i) Service Credit This is the amount of LAGERS service credit you expect to have on your date of retirement. This will be used to determine your benefit and to determine if you are eligible for retirement.
(ii) Final Average Salary Period This is the period of years, as elected by your employer, over which your Final Average Salary (FAS) is computed.
(iii) Year 1 First annual salary, to nearest dollar, to be used in FAS Calculation. This is usually your annual salary in the year preceding retirement.
(iv) Year 2 Second annual salary, to nearest dollar, to be used in FAS Calculation.
(v) Year 3 Third annual salary, to nearest dollar, to be used in FAS Calculation.
(vi) Year 4 Fourth annual salary, to nearest dollar, to be used in FAS Calculation. (Not used if your employer has elected 3 year FAS.)
(vii) Year 5 Fifth annual salary, to nearest dollar, to be used in FAS Calculation. (Not used if your employer has elected 3 year FAS.)
Retirement Information
(i) Date of Retirement This is the date you plan to retire. It must be on or after today's date. The Benefit Calculator will check to see if you are eligible to retire on this date based upon your age at that time and the service credit you entered.
(ii) Employment End Date This is the date you were last active in LAGERS. If currently active this date should be the same as your date of retirement.
(iii) Benefit Program This is the benefit program, as elected by your employer, that is used to determine your LAGERS benefits.
(iv) Rule of 80 Applies

To advance through the tabs, you may click either the tab's name on the left hand side of the screen (at the top of the page), or Next Page on the bottom right hand section of the screen.

To perform a brand new calculation, you can click New at the bottom left hand section of the screen.
